How to set up email in My Vision Express

Purpose

info This article provides information on how to send emails within My Vision Express. This will allow you to send receipts and letters to your patients, as well as referral letters to other practitioners, via email.

In order to send emails directly from within My Vision Express, you will need to enter your practices SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) email address settings into the 'Internet Settings' of MVE.

Step 1.

Go to File > Setup > Company Information, and click on the 'Internet Settings' tab.

Step 2.

Enter your email credentials and your SMTP settings under 'Mail/SMTP Settings'.

Below we have provided the default settings for some of the most widely used SMTP service providers.

info NOTE- If your provider is not shown in the list below, please contact them directly to request the information highlighted in the above screenshot before proceeding.

 

Gmail  (click for more info)

  • Gmail SMTP server address: smtp.gmail.com
  • Gmail SMTP user name: Your full Gmail address (e.g. example@gmail.com)
  • Gmail SMTP password: Your Gmail password
  • Gmail SMTP port: 587
  • Gmail SMTP TLS/SSL required: yes

GoDaddy

  • GoDaddy SMTP server address: smtpout.secureserver.net
  • GoDaddy SMTP user name: Your full GoDaddy address 
  • GoDaddy SMTP password: Your GoDaddy password
  • GoDaddy SMTP port: 3535
  • GoDaddy SMTP TLS/SSL required: no

 

Hotmail (paid version)/Live/MSN  (click for more info)

  • Windows Live Hotmail SMTP server address: smtp.live.com
  • Windows Live Hotmail SMTP user name: Your complete Windows Live Hotmail email address ("me@hotmail.com" or "me@live.com" for instance)
  • Windows Live Hotmail SMTP password: Your Windows Live Hotmail password
  • Windows Live Hotmail SMTP port: 587
  • Windows Live Hotmail SMTP TLS/SSL required: yes

Yahoo (paid version)  (click for more info)

  • Yahoo! Mail SMTP server address: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Yahoo! Mail SMTP user name: Your full Yahoo! Mail email address (including "@yahoo.com")

  • MobileMe Mail Me.com SMTP user name: Your MobileMe Mail user name (what precedes "@me.com" in your MobileMe Mail address; if your MobileMe Mail email address is "example@me.com", for instance, the user name is "example")

  • MobileMe Mail Me.com SMTP password: Your MobileMe Mail password

  • MobileMe Mail Me.com SMTP port: 587

  • MobileMe Mail Me.com SMTP TLS/SSL required: yes

SBC Global .NET 

  • SBC Global SMTP server address: smtp.att.yahoo.com
  • SBC Global Mail SMTP user name

  • SBC Global Mail SMTP port: 587
  • SBC Global Mail SMTP TLS/SSL: yes

When finished, click 'Save', then OK. You will then be required to restart My Vision Express for the changes to take effect.

Step 3.

Log back in to My Vision Express, and go back to  File > Setup > Company Information and click on the 'Internet Settings' tab. Click on the Send Test Email button.

In the 'Email' window, enter the name of the email address of whom you wish to send the test email under 'Recipients', and then click 'Send'.

If the test was successful, you will receive the alert shown in the screenshot below.

Your email setup is now complete!

 

for NOTE- If after performing the above steps, you are still unable to send emails, or receive an error when attempting to send the 'Test Email',  verify the SMTP settings and email credentials you entered to ensure they are correct. If you are still experiencing issues please contact My Vision Express support for assistance.
