What are SNOMED codes?
Posted by on 26 Mar 2014 11:38 AM

SNOMED-CT is an acronym for Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine – Clinical Terminology. Stage 2 Meaningful Use criteria expands upon the Stage 1 requirements to further improve and utilize healthcare IT and EMRs to provide consistent, collaborative care among different provider groups for any given patient.  This means that these electronic systems need to talk to each other and, more importantly, that they need to understand each other.  The only way for them to reach this understanding is to speak a common language.  Stage 2 of Meaningful Use has defined this language as SNOMED-CT – specifically for the problem list within a patient’s chart.

I noticed that some of the procedures we use do not have snomed codes. Where can I find the snomed codes for those procedures?
